Due to many various reasons, I failed my first semester of sophomore year. I moved schools, a family member passed away and there were just a lot of issues and changes in my life at that time. Second semester was a lot more progress but not perfect.
first semester i got a D in ap euro, chemistry and French. second semester I got a C in Ap euro and french and an A in chem. all my other grades were pretty decent throughout the year.
I was planning on retaking the first semesters of these classes but I read on the UC website that if the grade improves to passing grade the second semester, you don’t have to retake the first semester.Does this apply to all (or most) colleges as well or just the UC system? Thank you
I don’t know the answer to your question. However, I noticed that you were taking at least one AP class sophomore year at the same time that you were having trouble. Go very light on the APs from now on. An A in an honors class is better than a C in an AP class.
Grade validation for the UC’s and CSU’s (passing 2nd semester course with a C or higher and having a D or F 1st semester) can only be used for Math and Foreign Language courses. However, if you do not repeat your failed semester, that grade is used to calculate your UC/CSU GPA which has an impact.

AP Euro and Chemistry cannot be validated in this way. French yes but 3 D’s will have a huge impact on your GPA if you do not retake.

agreed, you are going to have to re-take the class to get your GPA close to or above 4 which is what;s required to be competitive at most UCs. Ideally, you could knock some of that out this summer.
Also, as @dadtwogirls notes, don’t kill your GPA by taking a bunch of really hard classes. Be smart about the courses you take next year and pump that GPA up with a bunch of As.
Good luck
