Can a Pell grant transfer between schools mid-year?

I can graduate early for my AS, but I at least have to attend fall semester. I just know that by next summer, I will have a free summer Pell, and I'd like to get started at the Uni.
Is there a way to transfer this? My dad called and they told him no, but his memory is off.

Thanks.

It does not “transfer” as such. But yes, you can get the second half of your Pell at a different school. You will have to submit the appropriate year’s FAFSA (2011-2012) to the school you are transferring to. They will prepare a financial aid offer for you and it should include your remaining Pell (and loan) eligibility.

So for instance, if you are eligible for $4000 in Pell: school # 1 may offer you 4,000 for the year (if they are not aware you will be gone for the 2nd semester). The award is split into semesters - $2000 each. They will disburse $2000 for the fall semester. When you apply to school #2 submit FAFSA to them. They will offer you FA for the smester you will be there which will include your remaining Pell eligibility of $2000.

I’m afraid that is wrong. The summer Pell program was eliminated under the recent budget. 2011 is the last year for summer Pell. (Unused Pell for the year would be available, but not the additional Pell that was available this year and last year).
