can a person with not so high stats get in some how

i probably have lower stats then most applcants to ucla. i am just wondering if there is a possibility of still being admitted. last year, the senior class of 07, there was a person that i knew that got in with a 1780 sat and minimal extra curricular into chemical engineering major. sorry if this is a stupid question

What do you mean by low stats? If you have a low SAT score, but high GPA, yes, there's definitely a chance. However, if it's the other way around, probably not.

i have a 1780 on my sat and about 3.65 gpa. the guy that i was talking about didn't have a great gpa either. i am just amazed that he was able to get in

UW or W?

1780 is good enough IF you have a high rank+high gpa. I'm surprised by how many students I've met here with score around that range or even lower, but they at the top of their class.

its weighted gpa. yeah i probably won't be admitted.

Yeah, unfortunately, that gpa is on the low side, unless you have some personal reasons to explain it. You can also try to transfer, which is kind of a shortcut, in my opinion.

Friend had SATIs around 1250, GPA around 3.8. She's a UCLA 1st year now.

Personal statement won out.

Good luck everyone

I got in to UCSD engineering with 4.25 UC W GPA and a 1520 SAT's
I'm hoping I will get lucky and get into UCLA
-Good luck to everyone-

I'm guessing that was 1250 M/CR, not 1250/2400.

In response to people who said higher GPA is more important than high SAT... that just makes me angry. High GPA and low SAT hints that the high school they attended give out easy grades, easy A's. Its something internationals like me have been lamenting for years now. We have people who get 4.0s in the states come to my international school and get 2.8s, no jokes. I believe Higher SAT score should superceded high rank/gpa, hands down.

^^ No, that was a 1250/2400.

Don't ask me how, or why. It just happened.

I agree. It's definitely not at all uncommon to see students with 3.9s or 4.0s in the States drop to at least a 3.0 in my school. We don't even have weighted grades here. GPAs are hardly standardized.

how can the UC's calculate rank when we dont write it in??? do they ask for transcripts or is it on our ELC number?!

That's because internationals are from different countries. You can't expect to come to the US and have everything the way your school does it.

The UCs, as of now, should have no idea what your rank is. Rank isn't considered unless you're ELC.

Yeah. I meant, ELC. SAT's don't play much of a role if you have ELC, which kinda sucks for those who went to competitive schools.

so i definitely don't have a chance then, with a 3.25 gpa and a 1930 SAT? T_T

is a 4.3 with a 1950 SAT and ELC considered low stats for UCLA? it's been bugging me for quite some time now

Mikage:

Yeah, unfortunately your chances are pretty low unless you have some extenuating circumstances.
