Can a school force students to take AP Classes that they didn't sign up for?

My school is forcing me, and practically more than half my grade, to take AP Classes that many of us didn’t sign up for. For example, my school will not let me out of AP Biology. I signed up for AP Government/Macro-Economics (1 class per semester) and AP Psychology. They are forcing me to take AP Biology even though I begged to have my schedule changed.

They shouldn’t FORCE you to. If your high school is a magnet school, especially for STEM, it may be in the graduation requirements, but I agree, this is stupid. I’d try again to take it up with your counselor. Say, “I signed up for AP Social Studies and AP Psych, but my schedule says AP Bio. I chose the classes that I chose for (insert really good reason here) and if there are scheduling conflicts, I understand, but if there is no reason, I will take it up with (insert name of higher level administrator here).” Try to get the AP Bio teacher on your side. If it ends up that you can’t get into the classes that you should be taking, self-study or even form a study group.

I’m sorry they’re forcing you to do this. At the very least try to extract a reason.

Best of luck!
