Alright, so I have a 78 in AP English second semester. I'm in Plan II and Business Honors at UT and I'm worried one or both of those programs will kick me out. I wouldn't be worried normally because schools have a financial incentive to keep kids they originally admitted after they've already declined waitlisted kids (if they can't take kids off the waitlist to take a kids spot, then that's lots of lost money for them). But in this case, it's losing out on the honors program, which means that financial incentive doesn't exist. My other grades aren't really spectacular, but none of them are that bad. I was "fooling around" in the sense that I wasn't focused on schoolwork. However, I wouldn't truly call it "fooling around": I actually spent most of the time that I would have otherwise spent studying reading books about economics (which is my intended major). I've read elsewhere on this forum that it rarely happens and its just a legend spread by teachers to keep students focused (which I entirely believe is true in most cases other than my own due to the financial incentive to retain students). But... what if it does happen?! What should I do? Should I contact them in advance to explain to them why it happened just in case? (or would that merely attract attention to the problem?)

“Can a school reject you if you get bad second semester grades as a senior?”

Yes, in general, they can rescind your admission.

“Alright, so I have a 78 in AP English second semester.”

If this is the worst that senioritis did to you, I can’t imagine a top scholar being rescinded for it. But then I don’t even know which “UT” you mean. ;)

Yes, they can. Yes, it is rare.

I think it depends a lot on how badly you did and your course load. In my school, AP grades are scored on a 5.0 scale. I have 5 AP classes this semester (and have early release). If I receive twos C, two Bs, and an A, my GPA this semester will still be 3.8 on a 4.0 scale. Would a school really kick me out for getting such a “low” GPA? In other words, I think it would take a report card full of Ds and Fs, especially if you were taking AP classes.

^College look at unweighted, not weighted, GPA.

OP, yes, they can rescind, but since this is a C at most schools, you’re fine.
