Can a Supplement hurt your chances?

I know supplements only add to an application...But can it work against someone's chances especially if they take a risk and do something completely unconventional?? I'm not sure, but mine is pretty far-fetched even if it does attempt to emphasize my unique qualities... Any suggestions?

Taking a risk is not a bad thing. But just like the personal essay, if you don’t write well (meaning there are lots of errors) or there’s something concerning in your optional, that can be something that detracts from your application. Takinga risk however does not detract. Just make sure that it’s readable, that it’s well written and that it adds something to your application not already submitted through another component.

@hopeisfreedom, for couple of drafts for my supplement essay I purposefully tried to make myself seem quirky. The stuff I was writing about were in fact true but it seemed like an alien wrote it and not something i would be proud of. But then I wrote an essay for me and not an essay I thought William and mary would want me to write and it turned out so much better even my college counselor agrees just write something you want them to know about you and write it well. If you want some pointers you can msg me!!!
