Can a teacher do this??

I was recently accepted into Harvard and Yale regular decision. (I am the first person to have been accepted to Harvard from my school, and the second person in the history of my school to have been accepted into Yale.) When my AP Statistics teacher found out that I was accepted into Harvard and Yale, he reminded the class that he was going to email and call each school that each student in his class was accepted to and try to have our acceptance rescinded, if our grades dropped by 5 points or more. I was wondering what I should do about this? I don't think a teacher should have the ability to do this and threaten an entire class...

What should I do?

Thank you.

Talk to your principal, that is not acceptable.

Don’t talk to your principal. This is silly.

The teacher isn’t going to do anything.

If he did, Harvard and Yale wouldn’t do anything.

By the time your grades come out, you will have committed to one or the other college. If you get a couple of C’s or worse, you will probably be asked for a letter explaining yourself. “I had a really bad case of senioritis after I got into Yale” is generally an acceptable explanation, as long as it is followed by “I’m sorry and I am ready to work hard in college.” Rescissions of acceptances do happen, but only in really extreme cases – total meltdowns, criminal activity, discovery of application fraud, that sort of thing. Not five or ten or twenty points in one class. Maybe twenty points in all your classes, though.

Recognize, however, that your teacher is trying to tell you that having gotten into college doesn’t excuse you from continuing to work and to learn. And he’s right. It is insulting to him and pretty contemptuous of academic principles in general to blow off a class because it will no longer affect your college applications.
