Hello I just finished my freshman year at Penn State University(schreyers honors college) majoring in "energy business and finance" and I am going to apply to the University of Pennsylvania as a transfer for junior year. After taking some courses and exploring my major I have realized I would like to focus my academics more towards sustainability from a business perspective. Wharton's Environmental and Risk Management major is exactly what I am looking for. I realize that Upenn as a whole only accepts around 10% of transfers so this would be a long shot however I think I may have a chance.

-Enrolled in the Penn State honors college
-Dean's List both semesters

-Volunteer coaching
-Volunteer at local state park doing environmental work
-A good amount of international experience in the past
-Attended several research conferences
-Research in energy field sophomore year(hopefully will be published)
-Internship at Energy Company Summer 2013
-Intern and employee at local psychology firm 3 consecutive summers throughout high school

Anybody have any thoughts?

Post this in 2 years and you might get a response.

sounds good ill mark it in my 2015 calendar

Haha I just realized I sounded like a huge *sshole. What really happened is I was lazy and didn’t really read your post. I saw “freshman” and immediately posted my comment. I’m really sorry about that.

That said, I just went over and read your post, and I advise applying. Your stats look good, your GPA is really solid, and you sound very confident about your more subjective assertions. Transfer admissions are a little less predictable (not that regular admissions are any more predictable), but I’d say you have an average to pretty good chance.

Awesome thanks a lot for the feedback I appreciate it.

If I do not have all of the prerequisites complete on time I won’t be able to apply correct?

Can’t chance without the most important stats: Gender? Ethnicity?

Well, it’s better than being Asian…

hahaha…so what do you think my chances are

So i like to think of college admissions decisions as kind of luck of the draw. As long as you are above a certain threshold (which you are), you are eligible in the raffle that they draw. Being Asian reduces your chances of being drawn, being an URM increases, being a white male does absolutely nothing. You have about as average of a chance as you can get. If you absolutely need a number, I’d say 12% (10% admission rate, accounting for applicants below threshold). However, keep in mind, this number is the very definition of a rough estimate, based more on a subjective take on admissions than hard numbers.

Okay thanks for your opinion and thoughts.

Ok. Decent chances of transferring into CAS and Engineering. Not so great for Wharton.

Okay, so in Wharton they only offer economics degrees with concentrations in certain business fields. If I got an economics degree with no concentrations from Penn CAS would that be just as effective? The Wharton degree I am looking for is Econ with a concentration in Environmental Risk and Management by the way.

By this I mean is an econ degree from a liberal arts college good if you wanna work in the business field?
