Can a VU student answer some Q's?

I got into Villanova early and I still haven't decided if I want to go there. I am between there and one other school and I am having a lot of trouble deciding. I like the academic reputation of Villanova... but there are a few other things I am worried about. I am not trying to stereotype the school, but I feel like everything I read says the same things about Villanova that make me think I wouldn't fit in. First of all, I have had three people that go to Villanova tell me that if you are not decked out in designer clothes then you are not "in". That is sooooooo not me and I think I would jump off a bridge if I was surrounded by label whores. But, I also realize that this could be an overstatement. But another book I read said that Villanova looks like an Abercrombie catalog. Is this true, or are there any people that are an alternative to that?? Also, are "frat" activities and dorm drinking the only things people do for fun?? I am not into either of those things. I am more into cultural stuff: music scene, art scene, etc...
Please be honest if you think I can find a place at VU or if I will not be happy there. I know it is a good school, so please don't convince me that is "right" for everyone... be honest PLEASE!

THANKS!!!

Miles,

Have you been to the campus to see for yourself? There opportunities all month for admitted students to go on tours, info sessions. etc. Aprill 22 is their 'open house'. You should check it out before deciding.

If you do enroll, you would add some much needed diversity :-)

hey -- im not a villanova student, but i was kind of in the same boat. my parents went to villanova,so i'd been out to the campus hundreds of times since both of them are active alumni. villanova had always been by far my absolute first choice, and i applied early...got deferred...then rejected. after getting rejected i realized i only wanted to go there because THEY wanted me to go there. thinking back on all the times i visted i really don't think i would have fit in. villanova carries the same stereotype as all other east coast private catholic colleges....rich, white, preppy. and while this stereotype is true, there are some people that don't fit in...but they are few and far between, i'll tell you that much. villanova has a really good academic reputation, but the people really are for the most part...rich and stuck-up. the girls are all clones of eachother...skinny, fake tan, wears lots of make-up, wears high-end clothes, carries designer bags, and wears the most expensive shoes. the guys are a little bit more of a mix. about half are the stereotypical italian guidos, and the other half are preppy all american boys (a&F, ameagle, hollister). the kids are nice, but certainly not diverse. the life of villanova students outside of academics mainly revolves around drinking and partying -- there are other things to do, but most of the kids party hard. coming from a highschool that carries an identical stereotype, this was the kind of environment i wanted to get away from, which i really didn't realize until i got rejected. i applied to other schools, and i decided on loyola college in maryland, in the end. but hey, it's all personal preference. i have 2 cousins who go to nova and absolutely love it. but then again i have 2 friends who are freshman and are both transferring. the only way to tell is to go visit for yourself. i'd highly recommend doing that if your considering the school...good luck, hope this helped a little...

the vast majority of villanova people are preppy/guido and concerned w/ appearance. if you stay on campus you will probaly drink at a frat/dorm room and hunt for ass like everyone else looks to do every weekend. But philly is only a train ride away and that can lead to all kinds of other options. but yes the stereotypes are true

What is the social life at villanova? I keep reading different things...this one book said that security was really tight and it's not your typical college experience on the weekends, that you don't have any fun until you're a junior. Is this true? I'm really impressed by Villanova's academics, but if it dosn't have any social life maybe it's not the school for me. If anybody knows anything please help

you definatly have a social life. It is not what you would call a party school with alcohol flowing from frat houses all over. But if you like dorm drinking you can do it whenever you want and the frats are good although sometimes it takes a little bit of effort to get to them. Tickets parties in philly are awesome plus you can go to clubs and Penn which has sick frats
