Not everybody who gets accepted has 3.9+ GPAs and 1500 SAT scores. Don’t lose faith, College Confidential isn’t going to be 100% representative.

If you’re not a “numbers” candidate (ie you don’t have perfect stats like some of the people posting) focus on what distinguishes you - there are a lot of other factors involved in admissions.

thank you everyone!
and there aren’t that many people that put their stats up for the stats profile thingy. thank you though!

Thanks. College Board makes it seem a little easier to get accepted NU, but I guess you are right, not everyone got a 35 on their SAT, top 1% of their class, etc…

Just to give you a little hope ;)

accepted to School of Communications for Communications Studies
GPA out of 100: 98.6 weighted overall, school doesn’t track unweighted, but freshman year I definitely had like a 96 something, with one or two B’s and a C in spanish but all honors classes so they were curved

SAT I’S: V-660 M-680 W-720
ACT: taken twice, 32 then 33 composite, 34 superscore

steady part time job for for two years, about 12 hours a week
ran track and cross country, 12-15 hours per week
various clubs but none held all four years
mandatory school service hours instigated after my freshman year, so 25 per year/75 overall
national honor society
national merit commended student
very involved in art classes - not much outside of school, but I took classes every year at school, got an award soph year, and drew for the newspaper occasionally
5 AP classes/tests, 3 on APUSH and lang and comp, 4’s on bio, lit, and euro

Don’t worry about it too much, NU isn’t that hard to get into compared to some other schools. If you think you’re borderline though, I’d suggest applying to weinberg then transferring to medill.

Oh, I’ll probably major in Econ and/or Political Science, so I’ll apply and stay in Weinberg, but thanks.

Is Weinberg the easiest to get into?

:)
thank you everyone!

Accepted Medill

GPA 4.3 weighted/~3.7-3.8 unweighted, 10 APs taken overall
ACT: 33 composite SAT: 2130 best combined

ECs: two-year newspaper editor in chief, academic journal content editor, varsity track, varsity quiz bowl, community service board member, cum laude society, ap scholar w/distinction, etc.

when applying to medill, emphasize your journalism talents and make sure to explain why you want to attend nu specifically for their journalism program. good luck!

keep in mind that the type of people posting here are the ones who have the high stats…most do not

The average SATs for admitted students to Northwestern for the class of 2013 rose 11 points to 1473. Admitted students in the top 10% rose to 93%.

thank you so much mattw09!
