Can achievements from Middle School be counted in your resume?

I was wondering because I achieved a lot of scholar achievements in middle school.
Is it okay if I mention it in my resume or is that a no-no?

Only if they’re especially impressive or worthwhile (i.e. on a regional/state level or higher). If they’re just within the school, then leave them off.

Resume for what? High School?

Thanks. Also, can it date back to 6th grade? Or is 8th grade the limit?

I meant resume for college. Like in the college application.

Honestly, colleges really don’t want to see middle school achievements at all (unless, like I said, they were stand-out impressive). Even so, I would limit it to 8th grade. I had several national awards in 8th grade that I listed on my application, but I left off the stuff that I had in 6th and 7th grades because colleges aren’t going to really look at that.

What are the achievements you’re thinking about including in your app?

Was thinking the same thing here.

State Geography Bee- 5th (5th place) and 7th (didn’t make it through qualifiers)
National History Day-state: 8th Grade, have a letter saying my paper was good enough to go onto Nationals but was denied because I told judges I wouldn’t be able to make it to Nationals, no “real” place.

I am confused… are you asking for what to put on the Common App? I can’t see any reason you would put middle school accomplishments on a resume… Even the Common App is specific that they are asking for accomplishments from 9th grade on. I would say that unless you did something at the national level, I would not put those accomplishments in either a resume or the common app. None of your accomplishments are at that level. If you wanted credit for nationals… you should have gone to nationals. That is the way it goes.

Here is the way I think colleges think of it – if you are spectacular enough to have big accomplishments in middle school (when, honestly, often the pool is smaller of participants in academic competitions), then you ought to also have big accomplishments in high school. Example: Buggie’s accomplishment point to someone who could have moved on and potentially done very well at Quiz Bowl or History Bowl or Academic Decathlon. They really DON’T want to hear about a middle school result. One of my kids was top 3 in NUMATS talent search SAT scores in middle school, she did not put it on her application.
