Im registered for honors algebra 2 next year (junior) and I want to take calculus during high school if it is possible. I have tried registering for summer Algebra 2 at a CC, but that was declined by my school, so maybe it might be possible to take Pre Calc with Algebra 2 next year, is it possible? If that does not work then I could always try doing pre calc at a community college over the summer, then if that does not work do any of you think Pre Calc could be taken with Calculus?
Thanks for any responses.

I don't think either of those will work. Definitely not pre calc with calc, and alg II with pre calc seems unlikely. I'd talk to your guidance counselor, but the only option seems to be pre calc next summer. Maybe you could self study this summer and see if they'll let you take some placement test to opt out of it?

In my experience, pre-calc and Advanced Algebra (Algebra II) were pretty much exactly the same, except in pre-calc we learned about limits and derivatives at the end of the year.

I think it would be very possible to double up, or convince the school to take a course during the summer.

Double up either of them. I did Alg II on my own between freshman and sophomore year; I have friends who took Alg II and skipped pre-calc, going straight into Calc BC. Currently, in multivari calc, none of us have problems keeping up.

One of the problems is how much your state's Algebra II course covers... my pre-cal class was about as distinct from my Pre-cal class as Algebra I is from Geometry. I'm under the impression a lot of other states teach a lot more in Algebra II than I was taught.

One thing that is stupid is that many Community colleges and Universities only offer Pre-cal as a year-long course.

i agree with whitelulu
this year, i didnt learn anything new in pre-calc. i really wish i had tested out of it and just went on to calc
i suggest you review pre-calc by yourself, and then test out

Double up Precalc/Algebra II if you can.

Algebra 2 with Precalc would be a better option. Precalc has trig in it that you should know before going on to calculus.

I did Alg. 2 honors and Precal honors simultaneously. It works perfectly fine if you are dedicated and it's actually fun to have double the math.

sighs I wish I had double the math next year.

I don't see how you can do calculus while taking algebra 2 concurrently. Algebra 2 and precalc might work, though.

just study trig, integration, derivatives and you’ll be able to test out of precalc
