Hey guys, I am taking a full load of business classes this fall and I am wondering if it is wise to do so. I hear how nasty the Marshall curve is, so Im a lil scared. Heres my schedule for this fall @ SC:

MicroEcon
MacroEcon
Business Statistics
Baud 250a
Some Phys Ed Class

I was admitted as a Neuroscience major, but after a change of heart, I have decided to pursue the business route. So this is why I am taking such lower division business classes.

I have the opportunity to take micro and macro here at UNLV (much easier im sure), but I really dont want to, because I have alot of plans for the summer (visiting mom in Chicago, gf, vacation, etc.).

So i guess what I am ultimatly asking is, will i regret not taking summer school to complete micro and macro and getting a better grade with less stress here at UNLV?

How easy is it to get an "A" in these classes? I would much like to complete those classes with all A's or A-'s. Thanks for ur help!

hey bro, coming from a cal state business school (cal state fullerton), and even though im not a business major, i can tell you that micro and macro are considered cake, and serious business majors are able to fly through it. i took AP macro in high school, and easily got an A, even though i didnt take the AP exam. i'm thinking of adding an economics minor at usc, and not having completed at least one of the micro/macro sequence courses is really bugging me. its a priority decision for you at the moment, once you get to usc, things will get a lot more serious than unlv, so maybe you should take a break and go to chicago, and then come back ready to take on your schedule in the fall. but if you wanna save yourself some time and unneeded stress, and if the micro/macro courses are transferable from unlv, then definitely take those classes in the summer. maybe you can find a weekend deal to chicago at the same time? just my two cents, hope this helps and good luck..

Don't worry about the curve. I wouldn't say it's "nasty", more just a pain in the butt (primarily for those that are going into a field that is GPA heavy).

MicroEcon - pretty easy
MacroEcon - pretty easy (take Easterlin if you can - GREAT professor)
Business Statistics - difficult (i really hated this class, the final was TOUGH)
Baud 250a - not tough, not easy

The Marshall curve will only apply to 250a. I'm assuming you'll be taking it with Merle Hopkins. People either love him or hate him, but little doubt that he knows accounting like the back of his hand. He goes fast so be prepared and freshen up on your note taking skills. Work the workbook like no other! Don't worry he's truly dedicated to his students, if you make a conscious effort, you'll do well.

I can give yuou advice because i took all those classes last year.

I took Econ 205 with Moore. An easy class to get a B in, however i had to work and study a lot to get an A.
Math 218 I took with Lototsky. Pretty difficult class in my opinion, much more so than calc. I had to study a fair ammount to get an A.
Econ 203 with Al Sabea. Easiest class ever. I got 100% on all midterms/finals. Very easy.
Buad 304...the marshall curve is not hard at all. I did not spend much time on this class and i recieved the highest grade...setting the curve.

If we are being honest here. I partake in illegal substances everyday...and still managed to pull a 4.0 in these classes. I dont consider myself that smart...if u try u should do well.

Buad 250a i take next semester so we'll see how it goes. Shouldnt be too bad ;)

Econ comes to me naturally and as such i plan on minoring in it, and am taking econ 305 next semester.

As you can prolly tell by my posts i suck at english/grammar...and did the worst in writing 140 of all my classes :( So taht in my opinion was by far the hardest and most time consuming class i have taken at SC.

afterhours, who did you take for stats?

For 218, I can't even remember the professors name. It was a russian name, I believe it started with a Z. Calc wasn't difficult at all for me, but I had a really bad time with 218. After I took the final, I erased the class from my memory :).

Hey I also have a quick question for current business majors. Even if I was admitted to Marshall my freshman year, I would still have to reapply at the end of my sophomore yr (or whenever I finish my business prerequisites), right? Is this a competitive process where I have to do really well to be admitted to Marshall? On the website it says I should maintain a B average to have a good chance, and I'm kinda worried now since I really suck at math. =

Anyone??? Someone told me that they changed the policy this year and we don't have to reapply for the business program once we're in Marshall. Can anyone confirm this?
