Hello, every body. I'm new to College Confidentials, so I don't know whether such thread already exists. I'm an international student and would like to know if a student can be recruited for ballroom in a university. If yes, could you give names of some colleges that have such practice? Thank you

It is a great EC to have on a resume. A D of a close friend took lessons/competed for 4 years in HS and now attends an Ivy (also top of her class!). Perhaps you can highlight your love of ballroom dancing in your application essay.

Some colleges have great dance teams too.

^ Thanks! that’s a good idea. I’m still wondering if ballroom dance is included in Athletics of any colleges. I checked out some Ivies and ballroom dance is there only as a club, but not as a sport. It seems unfamiliar to me, as I have been dancing for five years, am a member of my country’s Dance Sport Federation and have competed in championships of republican and international levels. A friend of mine told me that using a recrtuitment program can make my chances of admission get higher, but I don’t have any idea of how it works. Is the process the same as for a football player?

First, if you are competing at an international level, college will be interested in you, even if they have no dance team.
Second, I would contact [Youth & College Dance - USADance.org](http://www.usadance.org/youth-and-college-dance/) and ask them if there are any colleges that have ballroom (or other) dance teams. It’s not an NCAA sport, but there are colleges that have dance as a varsity sport (e.g. Edgewood College).

Thank you very much, beethere2! I contacted this organization, and they advised me some colleges with dance teams. However, they advised me to search for colleges based on my academic interests first, and only after finding a fitting college, find out whether it provides fin aid for members of dance team, if there is one.
I wish ballroom dance were an NCAA sport. I am sure it deserves to be one, but as long as it’s not, unfortunately, we(ballroom dancers) don’t seem to have the same chances for scholarships as for example, football or tennis players.

Does any body else have thoughts concerning ballroom dance in US colleges? Maybe there is someone, who is a professional ballroom dancer, like me, but, unlike me, is already in college? Please, share your views!

Happy Tale … I would like to point out that lacrosse players and many other recruited athletes at the NCAA D1 level do not have “the same chances for scholarships as football players” or basketball players. I have a feeling that the tennis players are in the same boat as lacrosse et. al. which is very few, if any, full rides.

(In lacrosse, that would be 12.6 scholarships to be spread across a team carrying 40-50 young men.)

Thank you, cnp55! Now I don’t feel like fallen out from boat, at least, not alone. I won’t rely any more on my ballroom dance accomplishments to get me a full ride. I will rather rely on my academic strenths, and, when admitted, join a ballroom dance club.

Btw, are there any girls currently enrolled or applying to universities that meet full demonstrated need of admitted international students, who need to have a ballroom dance partner? I am applying to several universities and I would add yours, if you answer.
Here I give my stats:
Height 180
Year of birth 1994
