lsandin. If you go to the main umiami site you can find the miami hurricane newspaper online. Each week they have a safety column which gives a crime report (if any) and other safety concerns. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts about campus.

Hi Isandin, I too look forward to hearing about your D's trip. We haven't managed a visit yet.

I was a bit surprised to hear the concern about safety, as the campus is in Coral Gables, which I thought was an upscale suburb/neighborhood about 15 minutes from downtown Miami. Was the concern that students would go into Miami for fun or internships? I was told that they tend to go out in closer Coconut Grove, but do take advantage of internships/jobs in Miaim. What is the specific concern?

Thanks.

A good friend of mine is at UMiami now and LOVES it! He is on the tennis team and alot of other things and really likes the student body. He's always saying how nice everyone is but he is just like them- he modeled for A&F so that might have something to do with his "popularity" :) I can't imagine that it is that difficult as the two kids that I know go there are constantly at the beach/clubs and have maintained decent grades. (one in premed other in business)

I'm applying EA for civil engineering and hoping I get in.

Good luck to all!

I think one reason UM is on rise is that they are generous with aid to in-state top students, offering an alternative to huge state schools. Campus is beautiful, lots to do.
