Can anyone comment on my schedule: Three Fiat Lux Seminars, One GE Class & Cluster

I'm not attending orientation, so I'm confused a little bit. My intended major is political science, and I'm admitted as a freshman.

Here's my schedule:

ASTR 3 Nature of Universe
GE CLST 21A. History of Modern Thought

KOREA 19. Fiat Lux Freshman Seminars
PSYCH 19. Fiat Lux Freshman Seminars
SOCIOL 19. Fiat Lux Freshman Seminars

Can anybody comment on my schedule? I'm worried that I'm taking only two regular classes. (I saw somewhere that generally students take three regular classes and one or two seminars) Is this schedule OK for my first quarter at UCLA?

Thanks in advance.

I would take three.

Three Fiat Lux seminars seems like alot, especially since they only really provide you with one unit towards graduation.

My first quarter I took two “real classes,” marching band (2 units), and a fiat lux. Easiest quarter, but I needed it. It was a great way to ease into college. I don’t think you’ll enjoy three fiat lux classes though. That’s highly unusual. I hope none of them require much reading, cause the reading for HMT is a beezy. You DO need to have a full-time schedule, though, so…I’d either choose another full class and drop the fiat luxes (all), find another way to pick up two units in place of two fiat luxes, or just keep this and be an odd case and let us know how it goes. If you’re like me, you don’t want more than 15 units if you can help it, ESPECIALLY your first quarter of college.

Don’t do it. Fiat luxes don’t fulfill any major requirements, and are intended as “for fun” classes. Are you having trouble getting a third class?

take 15 fiat luxes.

Thanks for all your replies.

Sandkicks, yeah, actually, I’m also worried that I’m taking too many seminars. Maybe I have to drop one of those three.

SaltyBruin12, I really appreciate your help. Well, just like you did with your marching band class, I’m thinking about getting one easy ‘non-academic class’, such as ethnomusicology (2 units). I know HMT is a hard class, so I want to focus on it for my first quarter.

arklogic, well, the problem is my major requirements are not much provided in the first quarter. So, if I take another class, that will be another GE class. And, no I’m not having any trouble getting the third class though.

zzzboy, though I like fiat luxes, I think 15 seminars for a quarter will be too much. ;)

you would set a ucla record if you took 15 fiat luxes…you would be in the daily bruin and everything.
