Hi All,

I am considering applying for one of Scad's online programs. Does anyone have any experience with the application process, or is taking classes from Scad in this manner? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Hi All,

I am considering applying for one of Scad's online programs. Does anyone have any experience with the application process, or is taking classes from Scad in this manner? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

I was very involved in the early development of SCAD's online program. I wrote some course material and taught 3 or 4 different online courses, undergraduate and graduate.

Some of the early courses were very rough around the edges, and a few were poorly produced. I was asked to teach one course - written by a former Vice President at the college - that was so poorly written that I had to rewrite it on the fly one week at a time ahead of the students.

However, the content development and review process has matured to a point that the courses are as good or better as you may find anywhere. SCAD employs a large staff of personnel including instructional and media designers. Faculty write the text. A course may take 6 to 12 months to develop 10 one-week modules.

I have seen and worked with course content developed by other colleges, and SCAD's is among the very very best. It puts the efforts of many other schools to shame. SCAD is also extremely conscious of ensuring the courses meet Accessibility standards as well as the criteria for accreditation.

Ultimately, the quality of the course is largely dependent upon the participation of the professor and the inclusion of his/her voice via discussion area feedback, e-mail, etc. Some faculty are outstanding, and some are not, but this is the case with all online courses at any institution.

The application process is handled in the same manner as any other application.
