I’m interested in the kinds of students who gravitate to each school, avg freshman class sizes, social environment, campuses, quality of life issues. I have already researched the academics extensively, but it’s these other things I’m curious about. Thanks so much.
There are some posts about this very topic on the “schools that moved up or down the list after visit thread” (I’m paraphrasing the topic). In general I believe it was said that U of R had a more intellectual student population and Syracuse had a more laid back, party population (or something close to that). I remembered reading that and thinking it was such a great description based on the people I know who have gone to each school. These posts were fairly recent so check in the last couple of pages.
I know students at both schools, and neither group would ever apply to the other school. Different schools… different students. Different types.
The students at UR are more academic ( i hate making generalizations like this because there are exceptions to every rule) than the kids at Syracuse. The students from our HS who attend Syracuse are generally wealthy kids who enjoy attending parties. UR attracts a “nerdier” bunch who are more inclined to sit around discussing biology ( again- I hate painting with a broad brush).
I know kids who graduated from both schools and they are all employed in their chosen fields and doing well.
Syracuse has the "rah rah vibe; UR does not. The kids I know at Syracuse love it there.
