So does CALS do rolling admissions. Does this mean I'll have a better chance of getting in if I apply early ?

Some have suggested it goes by major. So How does that work ?

Um.....Bump

rolling admissions begins in February for RD (just means you'll hear earlier if you're a better fit). got my acceptance letter Saturday; it only said I'd been accepted to CALS, not a specific major (I applied to IARD and AEM as second choice)

I've already explained this many, many times. Decisions come out in waves, the first of which went out about ten days ago. They read applications by major (eg, they've read the applications to entomology bc i've gotten my reply), and send out replies all at once. Some people find out before the common reply date (March 29th), but most have to wait until then. It's just luck if you get your reply early.

kwi- I'm going to try to restate your response- The "replies" (or acceptances) in CALS seem to be sent out at the same time by major for those kids who get accepted during this rolling decision phase. BUT THE VAST MAJORITY OF KIDS WILL NOT GET THEIR ACCEPTANCE (or denial) UNTIL 4/1. As ILR and HOTEL have only "one concentration", their decisions have come out in one or two waves only.
My "expertise" is based on being an ILR Mom whose kid is a junior. I have followed these boards for a few years and that seems the way it has been done.
My observation is that each year, less and less kids hear anything until 4/1- so please do not interpret No News as Bad News.
There will be plenty of acceptances on 4/1.

kwij, I actually picked up on that but isn't rolling admissions like giving out admissions as applications come in meaning that its beneficial to turn in your application early.

Yes but rolling admissions that have priority deadlines are usually for state schools, or big schools where applying early will give you a boost in the admissions process. I think what they're saying is that with Cornell, it's not really "rolling admissions", it's just informing those who have applied for a certain major earlier because they have finished the decisions for that particular pool of applicants. Applying late or early won't make a difference at Cornell because they're not based on "Rolling Admissions".

What I think is that the clear admits get informed of their acceptance earlier but it certainly does NOT signify that you are denied if you don't get informed this early. Most people have to wait till 4/1 for news.
