even though it has nt been that long

read novels and work on your reading speed. It worked for me.

I never read at all. I got a 28

There are always exceptions.

Basically what meow360 said, but you may also want to practice by reading newspaper and magazine articles at a decent speed. You'll want to read as fast as possible and still understand everything.
If memory serves, you have 4 sections - prose, humanities, social science and natural science - and none of them are very long. The prose requires the most interpretation and some people find it to be the most difficult - you might want to save it for last since all questions count equally.
Get some practice material and work away under timed conditions and eventually you will find your best strategy.

i've read that (unless you are a super fast and very good reader) it is impossible to do well on the reading section if you actually read the passages. they do it purposely to mislead you. it will take way too long to read the passage and answer the questions. instead, you should read the questions and look up the answers.

has anyone done this? if so, is it helpful?

reading is usually my worst, but english my best.
