I'm in Ithaca and tomorrow should be another hot day and I was wondering if I'd be able to go to any of the libraries to stay cool, my orientation doesn't start until later and I don't have a student ID yet. If so, which library would be the closest from Collegetown?

Thanks.

You should be able to; the closest is from Collegetown is probably the one in the Law school, followed by the engineering one in Carpenter Hall. These are both pretty small; you really should walk up Ho Plaza and see Uris/Olin to see the bigger libraries.

i'd go to uris library.

as a note, the fine arts library will be closed due to the heat.

nope they shoot people on sight :D

Darn, you beat me to the joke. But no one will care if you hang out in the libraries. Or any of the buildings for that matter.

whew, i barely avoided the bullet today. i went to the olin library and stayed there for a while doing some studying then ate at the cafe then went down to the basement and watched a dvd.

so stayed there until 7 to beat the heat, then on the way home, after eating stopped at the old teahouse (from the info on the other thread about boba) and got myself a boba. i am a happy camper today.

anyone can be in the libraries during the day, but from 2am until 6 or 7am, i think, the stacks (areas with books on shelves) are closed and one needs a cornell ID to be in the building (the security guards do rounds and checks, and a big alarm bell goes off).
