i badly need help with the written statement that Carleton wishes to get from students who accept to be put on the Waiting List. How do I write the statement? Do I write it in a formal tone or in the form of an essay? I absolutely do not have any idea about it... any carleton current students or alum over here who can help me out?

anyone here got in off the waitlist in previous years?

holla back

There are three different parts to replying yes to a waitlist offer. 1 is mandatory. 2 and 3 increase your chances if you are really serious about the college, but are optional.

1) I don't know about Carleton specifically, but most colleges include a card with your waitlist letter with postage paid and two tick boxes (asking if you want to accept your place on the waitlist). This is due May 1.

2) Most people also write a letter (in a formal tone I think), confirming that they are interested in the college, and updating them on new awards or activities etc that may change their application. You want to tell the college indirectly that you would accept a place if it is offered to you, and to convince them that you are a qualified candidate.

3) Some also send in additional materials, such as another teacher recommendation, or an academic essay.

Colleges say that they re-evaluate the waitlisted candidates starting May 1, so all this should be sent before then (the faster the better, because it shows your interest). In the meantime, deposit at your second choice.
