i'm trying to pick an early decision school to apply to by the november 1 deadline. Obviously, i'm running out of time! Problem is ,I'm pretty indecisive...

Pomona is basically a perfect college. amazing campus, top notch academics, very smart but fun students (i did an overnight there so i got to meet a lot of people). weather is a plus (I hate winter). No greek life, which i see as fine. Has the benefits of a small school while at the same time having the resources of the other Claremont colleges as well.

Kenyon has a cute campus, great new art buildings being constructed. Town is pretty small, though, and the weather does get cold there. Some greek life, but that's ok too. Had a great interview, but I didnt get to do an overnight and see what life is like. Though i'm able to name a few downsides, it's the only school i've ever visited where i got the gut feeling of "wow. i could really see myself here". But maybe that's just because I was having a good day or something, not linked to the school?

can someone tell me why kenyon is really the best?

"I hate winter" I grew up in MN and found winter in OH to be pretty bad, perhaps a bit shorter and warmer overall. Kenyon is a great school, but I think you have to take the CA weather in your case if you consider the education and community aspects to be equivalent for the two schools.

I didnt get to meet a lot of people at kenyon...what about the community there ? is there any way you could kind of describe the type of person there? I just want the place that is the best fit.

i live near boston, so hopefully the ohio winter would be a liiiittle less harsh.

Kenyon vs. Pomona, that's tough for me.
I'm a Kenyon student and I never visited Pomona, so much about the comparison.

Pomona is more selective and has what most people would consider better weather. That's where the obvious differences end.

You would be more likely to get into Kenyon, and the small community feel is great. The athletic center is probably the best at any DIII school. The professors are excellent and quite accessible. There's no way to describe the type of person at Kenyon. There's no way to describe the type of student who goes to Kenyon; there are students from every state, many countries, many ethnicities, and with many different interests, atletes, non-athletes etc. (sorry about the manys). The only people who really wont fit in at Kenyon are people who absolutely require a city; there's more than enough to do, too much some times, but some people just need a city; I don't really understand it.

As for the social atmosphere at Kenyon, my guess is that it's pretty typical of a liberal arts college. People tend to work pretty hard during the weeks and then engage in whatever there extracurricular interests are on the weekends (sports, art, performances, more school work, usually some drinking, going to see comedians or bands visiting the college, taking a trip to Columbus, you get the idea). There are fraternities and sororities, I can hear one of them throwing a small party upstairs right now, but they don't dominate college life; there art no frat houses and less than a quarter of the the student body belongs to a Greek organization.

Beyond that I've no idea what to say, best of luck.

Also sorry about the grammar/spelling; I don't know if I made mistakes, but I'm not going to check.

Also, winters in Ohio have less snow than in MA, similar temps.

If I were you I wouldn't apply early decision. Too hard financially and also you said you were an indecisive person. Because of applying early you would be forced to make the decision to attend there earlier than you would normally. Just apply the normal times for both schools so that way you can have more time to think about where to go.

I agree with the person above me...early decision is a serious commitment. You should only do it if you couldn't see yourself anywhere else.

Agree with the few posts above mine. It's not a race to pick your favorite school by Nov. 1, and doing so could put you in a very unfortunate position, particularly if you're prone to waffling.

Best of luck.
