We are running out of time or so it feels. My DD 10th grade just decided she wants to go to BS. We’re in the Northeast, she’d prefer a BS in Massachusetts with a dance program. She’s always been a high honors student, involved in EC. Today we got her seats back and they are not as strong as I thought they would be at 70%. We need some more back up schools. We are trying to come up with an application list. She likes CA, Dana Hall, Brooks and Groton. Any other suggestions? She does not like Gov’s. As a 10th grader applying to 11th grade we are looking to apply to about 8.
Hi, @amrose
If your daughter wants an Art BS in MA, check the walnuthill school. IMO, this is one of top art boarding school.
Good luck. http://www.walnuthillarts.org/
Look at Emma Willard school in Troy/Albany area- 3 hour drive from Boston. One of the most beautiful settings _- campus- buildings have been in a few famous movies. They have a wonderful visual arts & performing arts program! Their course offerings in visual arts are impressive & their dance company often travels for performances. Also did you check out Putney? Their arts program looks fantastic!
Putney does have great arts programs, but you really have to fit their model (very progressive). Walnut Hill definitely is purely an arts school, I believe you spend 1/2 your day in your art classes and no sports that I know of. Cambridge School of Weston (also very progressive) also has great arts classes, but their boarding program does not seem that strong.
As the other schools you’re looking at aren’t know as “arts” schools, what about Tabor? Well rounded and has what seems like a good dance program.
Although I can’t speak to the quality of their dance program, we are very happy with St. George’s. Also Middlesex, St. Mark’s, Tabor, Brooks? I’m not sure how many spots are open for 11th grade at these schools, however you could call and ask.
