I will likely attend for computer science, but I see a bunch of people already discussing dorming, and I have no idea about the dorms. What's the big deal about the 'six pack' and where do engineering students mostly dorm? Are there some partying or marijuana smoking engineering students? Just curious. Is there a dorm that's in between complete silence and complete partying?

Thanks in advance if you could answer any of these questions or inform me about the dorms!

The dorm ISR (Illinois Street Residence) is closest to the engineering quad, therefore a lot of engineers tend to dorm here… but as a freshman you won’t have many classes at the engineering quad so it’s not really a big deal where you live… and there’s busses that basically go anywhere on campus. Anyways, ISR has a lot of sophomores and upperclassmen and not many freshmen. It’s also a little bit more quiet. I’d say that most of the dorms are pretty quiet except for the six-pack

The six pack is where it’s at… it’s mainly freshman and I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to meet people and you always know where the party is at. I do know quite a few engineers living here as well and I haven’t heard any of them complain about the location. Six pack is known for partying but since drinking is not allowed in the dorms, people do it pretty discretely so noise isn’t really a problem.

And of course engineers party and smoke (not all obviously, but as with any major there are a lot of different types of personalities… not just all nerdy losers)
