Assignment: Are we free to make our own choice, or are our decisions always limited by the rules of society?
Since the dawn of civilization, men and women have been participating in an everlasting attempt to improve their lives through making decisions. In a true democratic nation, men have the right to make free choice for himself. Furthermore, if people’s choice are restricted by the rules of society, the whole society might eventually collapse because of the imbalance. Several historical events proves we are free to make our choice, or serious implications might happen.
The prime example is the intrepid girl—Malala Yousafzai, a seventeen-year-old girl who fought for the right of Pakistani women and children. Pakistani’s right had long been torn apart by authority. Seeing her consanguinity suffered the duress given by the coercion, Taliban, Malala decided to oppose to the government and strived for Pakistani’s deserved right. Despite being ruled under the strict laws, Malala was unflinching and continued battling. Incontrovertibly, Malala is a quintessential paradigm demonstrating that we are free to make our own choice regardless of any circumstances.
The next illustration is depicted in the Jasmine Revolution. After a long period of control under the arbitrary government, Tunisian decided to stand up and resist the government. They wanted their government to take charge of the recession and gave back their deserved religious right. Tunisia had long been dominated by the authoritative government, but people’s remonstrance presented we, mankind are free to make choice in spite of the strict rules of society, and with the decision to follow our free will, we can welcome a more resplendent life.
Similarly, the Chinese nation also substantiate we are free to decide on our own. During the tumultuous times of 19th century of China, pernicious wars occurred one after another. Despondence pervaded the whole country; people felt disheartened and had nothing to depend on living. In spite of the stranded condition of people, Qing government was submissive to the foreign power and shoed no signs to fight back. Consequently, people choose to defy the government for their felicity. Finally, after 10 times of failure, with their determination to choose on their own, Chinese broke the feudalism that had occupied China for thousand years and built up a democracy. This show our decisions are not limited by society and that our happiness are indeed what we make ourselves to be.
From the epitomes above we can fathom we are free to make choice and are not always limited by society’s rules. Malala, Tunisians and Chinese had long been oppressed by the rules of society, but they did not continue allowing others to deprive their free right and ultimately fought back. Were they confined to the rules of society, their nations would not see a bright, free future. Just as the popular adage goes:” For man is man and the master of his life.”
