Can anyone please help me find a scholarship?

Hello, I am going into my senior year of high school and I was browsing at possible scholarships. I have a 3.74 unweighted GPA, in the top 10% of my class, and have been on the highest honor roll every semester. However, my ACT score wasn't that great at 25. I would like to know if there are any full ride scholarships to any school with my stats and what the possibility of a scholarship is for me. Thanks!

Why don’t you retake the ACT? A 25 probably won’t get you much in the way of scholarships, let alone a full ride.

Normally for a good scholarship you have to be in the top stats wise at the college you are applying to. Very few schools, if any, offer large scholarships based on GPA alone. A lot require a high ACT or SAT (usually considerably higher than the school’s average) plus a certain GPA. For instance my daughter’s scholarship (full tuition waiver plus some cash, by no means a full ride) at her state U required a 32 ACT and a 3.75 GPA. The school’s average GPA is around 25 or 26.

So if you are looking for scholarship money, you need to bring that ACT score up.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but “full ride” is a rare bird. Very often the “Full” means “For athletes” or it means “we cover tuition but you need $10K for room, board and books”.

Now is a great time to get “How to pay for college without going broke” and read it carefully. Talk extensively to the parents on what they could pay. Check out any options at the high school to 1) test for college credit or 2) earn a community college credit while a high school student.

The economy stinks and there are thousands of kids like you – smart but not 4.0. Most kids stitch together a patch work instead of a “full” bedspread to cover costs. Some work, some loans, several small scholarships, some family money, etc.

Your best bet for an economic college experience is going to be in your home state at a smaller state college (For example, in my state, the flagship, University of Washington is more expensive than the much smaller Eastern Washington College). Good luck!

State universities might be able to offer you some really good partial tuition scholarships, and some states really do have great public universities. Otherwise retake the ACT.

I don’t think many State Us would offer really good scholarships for a 25 ACT. I know ours do not.
