Can anyone recommend a school that has a high transfer rate to U Mich?

HYPS?

Seriously, it’s not clear why you’d go this route. They accept about 1200 transfers a year overall (all schools and colleges), but their overall acceptance rate for transfer applicants is lower than for freshman applicants, and in LS& A (arts & sciences) and engineering, getting in as a transfer is highly competitive. You’ve got to submit all the same HS transcripts, standardized test scores, teacher recs, etc, as an applicant for the freshman class, plus college transcripts showing a cumulative GPA > 3.0, plus normal progress toward your major and all other Michigan degree requirements, plus a recommendation from at least one college prof. So why bother? Why not just apply as a freshman if that’s where you want to end up?

I’d imagine a lot of the transfer applicants who are accepted are coming from UM-Dearborn, UM-Flint, Michigan community colleges, or other public colleges and universities in the state, who either did a year or two closer to home to save on tuition and living expenses or found themselves at a school that did not offer the same curricular opportunities as Michigan. Others may be Michigan residents who start out at private schools but transfer to take advantage of in-state tuition or for other personal or family reasons. I’ve never heard of anyone intentionally choosing another school because they thought it represented a good path to transfer admission to the University of Michigan. Maybe it happens, but I’ll bet not that often.

I’m sure he is asking because he can’t get in in the freshman class, so the post above me is largely useless (no offense I’m not in an elogquent mood).

BS.

You heard it now. I transferred and I’m not an instate student. I have MANY friends/acquaintances that transferred from OOS schools that were ranked lower but not by much. There were quite a few international transfers too.

^We don’t doubt that people transfer to UMich. But what I don’t understand is why anyone would choose a school BECAUSE of its transfer rate to another school. Transferring is a perfectly legitimate option, but I’ve never heard of anyone picking a school based on this. I don’t really see how initial school choice matters if the applicant will only be going there for a year.

Washtenaw Community College has a program called M-Ties with Michigan. I know of lots of kids who have gotten into Michigan from this CC.

I see. I guess I misunderstood the poster.

UM-Flint has a engineering tie-in with UM
