Currently I'm in Regents Chemistry and not doing the greatest(averaging about a 75-80) but freshman year I took regents biology and averaged about 90-93 and was hoping that senior year I could take AP Bio, but because of my not so great Chemistry grades I'm hoping I can choose whether or not I want to take an AP class instead of my previous science teacher deciding for me.

You need to talk to your guidance counselor because it is different for every school.

Depends on your school. For example, where I live you have to get a B or higher in regular biology to take AP Bio and so forth. (Even if the rules say you can’t take it because of your grades, you could still probably ask your GC and they might let you take it anyway.)

Like everyone said it depends in my school at least a 94 in chem and a 90+ science average.
But if your average falls short, you can ask the head of the department to give you a waiver for your parents to sign and then you’ll be put on the waitlist.

In my friend’s school, all you need is your chem teachers approval…

At my high school, anybody could take AP classes, as long as you had taken the required prerequisite classes (e.g. taking introductory physics before you take AP Physics). The only exception was math. Although it encouraged more people to take AP classes, there were some kids that were lazy and didn’t want to try strangely decided to sign up for them. I remember a girl who took AP Biology who had the maturity level of a five year old. Her guidance counselor wouldn’t let her drop the course once the girl found out how much work it would be, so she just sat in class and did nothing, did no homework, and didn’t do any of the exams or quizzes. Sigh. People.
