Can anyone tell me about substance-free housing?

Hey…I know BC has designated “substance-free” floors in dorms…

I guess I just wanted a little more information, because I can’t find anything on the website!

I read on another similar site (I won’t mention the name =] ) a comment where a kid said that they aren’t really substance-free (I don’t know what to make of that)

I feel that this type of housing would be really great for me because I just don’t want to be surrounded by drinking 24/7

So, if anyone has either lived in it or knows someone who has or just has general information about the dorms, that would be great! Thanks

from what ive heard, theyre definetly "quieter" than other BC dorms. freshman year you definetly wont be surrounded by party animals. after that, ive heard of kids who request sub-free just to get the better housing and so they dont have to worry about parties in their room but they can come back wasted. and yes, you can get in trouble for being under the infuence of anything/anywhere if you live in them and may get kicked out of them. and not to be over judgemental, but ive heard people in sub-free freshman year arent the most lively bunch. and living in the housing might prevent you from meeting all different kinds of people

but i would make sure it was right for you before requesting them. because even in regular housing there are people who dont drink. and youll really only see drinking/hear loud people on thurs/fri/sat nights. last year on my floor there was a group of girls who never drank and found other ways to have fun on weekends.

not sure if thats the info you were looking for but i hope i helped!

thanks beanieboo, very helpful! great points, ill give it some further thought
