Re: David Updegraff- his students love him and no one I know would switch studios if offered the chance. He is kind and not known to be a teacher who resorts to put-downs or verbal abuse to “motivate”. To a person, his students make progress which is readily apparent in each performance and they seem happy, which is always a good thing!
Never underestimate the importance of the “politics” at CIM, their tie to the Cleveland Orchestra and the number of graduates they have sitting in major orchestras all over the world. You’ll also be assigned to one of the two orchestras immediately and seats rotate all the time- each plays at least one concert per year in Severance Hall. If you have any specific questions about the school, feel free to PM me.
I know you’ll make the right choice- you’ve had a terrific audition season, congratulations!

Thank you Mezzo’sMama! I think Cleveland is a nice school but I just didn’t like the area. And I’ll PM you.

But i’m curious, does anybody know anything about Axel?

He’s been at the SF Conservatory for about 7 years; he’s a very talented performer and is well regarded. My kid auditioned with him in high school and he was very charming and seemed like he would be a great teacher; turned out he didn’t take h.s. students that year…
