Hi, i have a weighted GPA of 3.7 for 10-11 and if freshmen year is counted then it goes up to a 3.8.
My SAT score is 1690 and even though im going to take it again in oct. i dont think it will go up too much. My only extra curriculars are swimming for all 4 years and waterpolo for 3.
Any Insight?

Your swimming and water polo might help you a lot, try to bump that SAT score to around 1800 don't forget about the essay, which is can be the deciding factor.

up the SAT, make up a fake sob story for ur essay, and ur as good as in.

Up the SAT is correct. Don't make up a fake sob story. If theres one thing more than anything admissions counselors hate, it's sob stories during personal statements. My AP Lit teacher used to be an admissions counselor, and he told us there's 3 D's to avoid: Death, Divorce, and [I think] Destruction or something along those lines. Destruction might not be right, but still, heh heh.

Basically, there are three (for UC schools) personal statements (essays), as well as an additional section to write about "things not covered by your personal statements that you would like the university to know." So in there, you can write if you had any specific hardships, but I'd advise against making them up.

I have an admissions counselor in the family and she said to be an analytical writer in terms of connecting hardships -> preparation for college. If you elaborate solely on the hardship, it's as good as garbage. This 'hardship' has had to help you in some way to be prepared for college.

according to me u should be fine. but u never know. i think i had a SAT score lower than yours. NO extraciriculars at all. only 2 years of spanish cuz i hate spanish. SATII scores wernt that good at all.

but then again i was in top 5%. graduated with a 4.6. i dont know if they liked my essays or not...i wrote them myself in a couple days at the last minute.

oh also, i think it will help that i've spent a lot of time on the swimming. because my school is one of the best in aquatics in our area, we practiced 1 hour 30 in the morning before school, then 3 hours after school for water polo, and basically the same thing for swimming except only 1 hour in the mornings and the second part is the same.
My college essay, if i can write on it, will be about when i used to not try as hard in practices and blame that i wasnt that good in waterpolo on the fact that i was short, but then saw a disabled kid who could swim faster than me with his legs amputated.---- basically what i "learned" is that you could blame a low test score on a bad teacher, or that your just not smart enough, but the real reason is thart you didnt try hard enough.

oh, And i doubt this helps any, but i'm from hispanic descent even though i look white ( mother and father from chile.) but from the looks of things it doesnt look like too much hope :/

Just focus on writing solid personal statements and I think you'll do fine. You don't need much to get into UCSB, take the SATs again.

Liquidious, you don't mention whether you're in or out of state. If instate, your stats guarantee you admission to a UC (not necessarily UCSB, but it's one of the easier campuses to get into). To run your own eligibility stats, go here:
http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html

As for essays, ECs, etc., etc., they're virtually irrelevant. UCSB is numbers-driven. They don't have the time, staff, or inclination to read students' laborious statements. It's a little disingenuous of the university to ask for them.

Yea, sorry i forgot to mention that. i'm In state, but even though im guaranteed a UC it will probably be UC riverside, which would not be that great seeing as i could drive there in exactly 10-15 minutes with traffic. i dont even have to take a freeway. so then i would be missing out on the whole college dorm experience because it would seem totally inefficient to be spending money on staying in a dorm if i live that close.
Also why i said it would be UC riverside is because UCR is a really easy school to get into.
Actually, is it that your guarantedd one of the UC's you apply to? or just one of the ones that are there.
"A-G" GPA: 3.70
UC Score Total: 301
UC Score for SAT: 181
UC Score for Subject Tests: 120

at least im eligible for one, too bad itll probably be UCR.

oh, and my SAT II's are horrible... Biology E 570 Spanish 550

No way to guess chances. UC admissions were all over the place this spring. I saw kids with UCSB as first choice admitted only to UCSD, which was completely unexpected. Have you thought about taking the ACT? Some students do better on that test. Good luck.
