So I just got my AP results and found that I got a 5 on the BC Calculus exam (yay). However, I got a B- in class. It wasn't because I was a slacker, it was just a pretty difficult class with almost everyone else feeling that way. If I show colleges that I managed a 5 on the exam, will they not look so down on me?

Yeah they’ll probably think your class had grade deflation

Yes. I’ve heard that AP exams are really only for that purpose. Not only do they show your knowledge in the subject, but they also help illustrate the difficult of a class.

A kid who gets a 3 on the BC Calc exam and an A+ in the class may show that the class did not do a good job in preparing him and was just merely easy.

On the other hand, in your case, a 5 and a B- may somewhat “cancel” each other out. It doesn’t erase the fact that you got a B-, but it certainly shows that your class and your effort helped get you a 5.

Allright, well that makes me feel better, thank you.
