Can being from another part of the country help admissions?

I am from Connecticut and really want to go to University of Chicago. I have heard that being from further away and in an area in which less people apply to UChicago could increase chances of getting in. For example, a school of the same level and acceptance rate would be harder to get into than one in a different region of the country.
This is just something I've heard, I would obviously still have to have the best scores and gpa etc. to be accepted, but I am just wondering if this has any truth at all...
Thanks :)

Not really. The only thing that might play a role is if you live in an underrepresented state (Montana, Idaho, etc.) This sometimes affects chances.

Ok, that’s interesting. I was just wondering because all the kids at my high school say that’s its true, but I wasn’t sure I believed them. Thanks
