They're being read by two different colleges, right? So can the content overlap or is someone who is making the admissions decision looking at both?

bumppp I would like to know this as well.

I would think they expect overlap. I have no idea if they read both essays or how the internal process works. Keep in mind, only a very small percentage of applicants are admitted to their secondary choice (I think 2%). If you’re applying for Biology in CAS and Biology in CALS, how could they not overlap? Or AEM in CALS and Econ in CAS? Cornell is one university after all, and the subdivisions between colleges aren’t all that important, except in determining which administrators manage what programs. I don’t see how one college offers something completely different from another college that would lead to drastically different essays, unless you are applying for Mechanical Engineer in CoE or English in CAS, in which case admissions probably thinks you’re confused ;)
