Can CSS harm us?

<p>I could probably find this out with a little more digging, but I know you guys rock with your experience with the financial aid stuff.</p>

<p>Our situation--2012 was an atypically low year for us income-wise (DH was out of work half the year). We just finished FAFSA and it looks more promising than it did in the past (we have never filed but did some of those estimated EFC calculators). (We have one kid who just finished college, another who is a college sophomore, and a hs senior.) I was part-way through the CSS Profile but the part where it asks for projected 2013 income info got me a little nervous. </p>

<p>First stupid question--for the subset of schools we're sending FAFSA to that are on the CSS list, is the CSS <em>required</em>? I mean in addition to the FAFSA? Sorry for the complete ignorance--the good news/bad news is we haven't been in a position before where we'd qualify for fa so this is our first time through the process.</p>

<p>I guess I need a quick CSS primer? Help?</p>

<p>If the college asks for the CSS it is not a polite request. They won’t proceed with your package until it is all filed. Also, check to see if they want documentation submitted through IDOC. Good luck on a doable package!</p>
