Can deferred ED kids get interviews in RD?

I was deferred from ED but I never got an interview. Is it possible for me to get one as an RD candidate? If so, will they give me an interview, or should I request one?

same thinggg

i asked this question in another thread, and some ppl said it is possible that they will contact you sometime in january or so for an interview. but it depends how many alumni are in your area. i don't think penn allows you to request an interview.

Etoile_x: Penn absolutely permits you to request an alum interview. That's the only way they know you want one.

If you're an RD applicant, do you have to request an alumni interview or do they consider you for one if you've applied?

Same question: How might an RD student apply for an interview for Penn?

Thanks.

Chandler & cubism: write Admissions a letter asking for an alum interview.

@ Mrs. Brosnan,

Would this be via email or snailmail? And if we don't is it assumed that we don't want an alum interview?

Thanks.

cubism: I'm not sure it matters, though we did it in a cover letter that accompanied supplemental materials that were submitted by mail. And yes, if you do not request one Penn will assume you don't want one.

Interviews are not able to be provided to all applicants so they don't put weight on them in the admissions process. Interviews cannot be requested, its a process that simply has to do with how many alumni are in your area and how many applicants - that depends on if they can get to everyone. It's first come first served - the only info alumni interviewers have on an aplicant is their high school, what degree they've applied to and their contact information - so if you get contacted or not it's not based on anything having to do with your application.
No need to request an interview, but you can submit something to let them know Penn is still your first choice and you are still interested in being considered.

Hmm, @phillyj and Mrs. Brosnan,

Now I'm thoroughly confused. Any new thoughts/ideas?

Thanks.

I have to disagree with phillyj. You do have to request an alum interview, and it certainly cannot hurt to do so. But they cannot interview every single applicant, so even if you request one, you may not get one because of demand, availability, etc. Because of that, the Admissions Office will tell you that no one is penalized for not having an alum interview.

We requested one in a cover letter that was mailed Nov. 1, and was contacted by an alum right before Thanksgiving weekend, less than three weeks before ED decisions were announced.

But, why not call the Office and get your info straight from them?

Any applicant can indicate that they are interested in receiving an alumni interview, or simply they are still interested in being considered. This information will keep them active in the alumni online system. Sometimes local alumni chairs who are familiar with the process will try to get to all early decision applicants during November, or all deferred applicants in January, but mainly it operates as I described above. In the region where Mrs. Brosnan lives though they have a large alumni network and were possibly more able to get to everyone.
I will agree that sending in a request will not hurt you - it's just not necessary.

i was told by the penn admissions officers that applicants would be contacted by the alumni committee (if there is one where they live).
i applied ED too and i didn't have a interview. i tried to request one but it didnt work. i ended up being deferred and i got a phone call from the alumni committe for a interview.

trtr09 is right
i called the admissions office today and they said you will be contacted for an interview (if you get one). you cannot request an interview.

Penn Admissions: Interviews
"Personal interviews are available through our Alumni Secondary School Committee (SSC) volunteers, who will contact first-year candidates after they have applied to Penn."
