I can't find anything on their website, but is it possible to double major at NYU? If so, what are the guidelines? Is there a link so I can read it for myself? Thanks so much.

Yes you can. Here's some info:

CAS. http://nyu.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5414031391/m/8321053661

Steinhardt.http://nyu.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/4324031391/m/6331091761

Good luck.

Thank you so much. You're great!

Those links are very helpful. I was interested in pursuing a BFA in studio art from Steinhardt and a BA in philosophy from CAS, is that possible? Which school would I apply to in order to do that? Most schools that have a dual-degree program like that already set up put it into a 5-year program, but from what I've seen there doesnt seem to be a set dual BA/BFA path at NYU, or is there?

NYU does not offer a two Bachelor's degree program, nor does it allow you to take a second Bachelor's degree if you already have one (with the exception of a degree in Nursing). In the 5 year BS/BE program, the BE degree is granted by Stevens, not NYU. This link asks a similar question to yours and may be of help.

Having said that, there are numerous dual degree programs at NYU involving advanced degrees. The BA/DDS program still exists but not the BA/MD. Some departments offer a 5 yr BA/MA, Wagner has several at the Master's level, there used to be a JD/MBA (may not be any more), and there are several possibilities in the Med & Dental Schools including MD/PhD.

So, in the end, the answer to your question is, unfortunately, no.

thanks a lot vercingetorix. so whats the deal with fine arts major in CAS and fine arts in steinhardt? is steinhardt a BFA and CAS a BA? say i wanted to double major in fine arts and philosophy, getting a BA, i would apply to CAS?

also, would that mean submitting an art portfolio wouldnt do much because im applying for a BA and not the BFA?

OK. I'll give this my best try! :)

There isn't a fine arts program in Steinhardt, it's Studio Arts. It offers a BFA. It's a fairly tight program and does require 10 credits in Fine Arts (CAS). It also requires a portfolio (in lieu of SAT 2's).

Fine Arts in CAS offers a BA. You can minor in Studio Arts in Steinhardt if you want.

If you wanted to double in fine arts and philosophy getting a BA, you should apply to CAS.

If you apply to CAS for fine arts, you do not need a portfolio. You do need 2 SAT 2's.

It MIGHT be possible to major in studio arts in Steinhardt and minor in fine arts in CAS. You need 16 credits. There are already 10 in the Studio Arts curriculum and you have 18 unrestricted credits available. Only an advisor can tell you if this is possible, however.

Hope this is helpful to you. Good luck!

PS. If you apply to Steinhardt, you must declare a major - Studio Arts in your case. If you apply to CAS, you do NOT have to declare a major and may apply "undecided".
