because I want to know if I will be commended, and it is usually around the 96.5% so I want to know if my 96% is high enough.

My score is 200 and I'm in the 96th percentile

My score is 200 and I'm in the 96th percentile

did you get it in school?

209 was 98th percentile. I'm very angry since i saw many stupid mistakes in my math section which was a 64 grrrrrrr

I got a 207 and was in the 98th percentile as well. I also had a 64 on math =[. Oh well. But I'm confused as to if National Merit Scholar is ONLY 99 percentile or do they include some of the 98 percentile depending?

i believe its 99th percentile in your state. 98th percentile in the country could be 99th percentile in your state, or 99th percentile in the country might not necessarily be 99th percentile in your state.

219, 99th percentile in pennsylvania...i don't really know what's good/reaaally good and such...do you think that will be enough to receive the semifinalist rankings? haha i know nothing about this..

Definitely ^

The cut off was 213 last year for PA. I think it was 215 in 06.

anyone know the typical NMSF cutoff for CA?

^ anywhere from 217-219

184, 90th percentile. :/ at least I went up 510 points though.

How do you have your scores already?

^^ How do you have scores?

PSAT: 204, which was 96th or 97th percentile (forgot which one)... which actually qualified me for national merit semifinalist in Arkansas (the one time i can say thank god for arkansas...)

SAT: 2270 - 99th percentile

sophomore - 213.. could've aced math if it weren't for those stupid mistakes..

99% - NJ

Ahh..anyone have scores have California yet? Also for those of you with scores back, do you have the test booklet, questions? If so, what was the real answer for some of the harder writing questions? (like the one #33,34,32, forgot which one that asked for which paragraphed it belonged best in...) Thanks!

peytoncline--congrats! haha I live in AR too..can't wait for my scores! But now I'm kind of scared seeing that you got 2270 SAT and 204 PSAT. that's quite a difference...I was hoping my SAT (2230) score would be close to my PSAT score..maybe not..but yeah thank god for arkansas. I woudn't even have a chance in NJ or whatever.

did anyone get the test booklet back? I didn't think you could..

^what's your PSAT score?

if you got semi-finalist and then got a 2230, congrats, b/c as long as your grades and gpa are good, you're pretty set for finalist

We're out of school all of this week! So we haven't gotten them yet =[ We better get them next week!
hopefully i did better than my 197 last year...
My PSAT score was 10(0) pts higher than my SAT score last year so maybe that'll happen again? haha

Did you get finalist?

I got a 191 my sophomore year, then a 204 my junior year.

We don't find out about finalist until January or February, one of those two months (can't quite remember which one).

You don't even find out if you've made semifinalist until Late August/Early September of your Senior Year (basically, about 11 months after you take the PSAT).

The cutoff for Arkansas was 204 last year (whew, I cut it close, no pun intended). But really, once you make that cutoff mark, your PSAT is useless. Now it's up to you take the SAT to match or beat your PSAT score (i got a 2040 the first time I took the SAT, so I matched, but I sent in my most recent 2270 to National Merit; they'll see that I beat my PSAT score). Then, you have to fill out an application sheet (name, personal data, etc...) along with your personal accomplishments (awards, leadership roles, jobs, etc...). You also have to write a 500 word essay for the app (just like a college app). Then, your counselor fills out the rest of it, including GPA, course rigor, and all that stuff, along with a rec letter.

Then in January and February, 16,000 Semifinalists are cut down to 15,000 Finalists (yeah, only 1000 are cut out, most likely because they're grades were not too stellar and/or they just got lucky on the PSAT and never could match/beat it; or they're essay sucked.. that's possible too).

Good job! I got a 205 freshman year and 219 sophomore year..hopefully I got >219 this year cause that's the cutoff for California.
