Can Expository Writing be taken 2nd semester?

In the mail today, I got a letter from the School of Engineering with a list of the classes I'll be taking first semester. Expos isn't on the list, so is it safe to assume that I'm taking it 2nd semester? (I didn't AP out of it either)

Same thing happened to me, I’m assuming it will be 2nd semester.

I’m in SAS so I’m not too sure how engineering works…but didn’t you have to sign up for classes sometime during the spring/summer?

Well if u still want to take it in the fall semester u can still sign it for it during the second or third week of Sept.

And u will be choosing ur classes for the spring semester so it is up to u which semester u want to take it in.

I’m in engineering and i do have it… calc, chem, expos, an elective, some engineering class and i feel like there was one more but i cant remember

This is what I have:

General Chemistry for Engineers I
Intro to Experimentation
Intro to Computers for Engineers
Calc I for Math/Phys
Analytical Physics IA
+Elective

Is Intro to Experimentation like a Chem lab or something?

yeah Intro to Experimentation (Chem 171) is Chem lab

Oh dear, Chem is my worst fear right now :stuck_out_tongue:
Have you taken it? If you did, how is it?

yeah I took both Chem lab and Orgo lab already.

The labs are not that bad but they are long. You are generally assigned 3 hrs for the labs and sometimes u have to used up most of the time. The most important thing is prepare urselves beforehand for the class such as looking over the experiment since there is always a quiz before the lab.

One more thing chem labs have a very weird grading system. Even though u might be getting high marks on ur labs and quizzes you might not get that A or B u wnat because u r being compared to the other students in ur lab section. So that means if other people are getting even higher grades than u r then u might end up doing bad since there are only a few As, Bs, per sections (mostly Cs).

^ Ahh thanks so much, that grading system sounds pretty scary lol. I just have one last question: Are the Chem class and Chem lab the same difficulty? Is one easier than the other?

Well one of them is 4 credits (general chem) and the other one is 1 credit so one of them has to be harder than the other. Dont stress urself over chem lab i would concentrate more on the actual chem course.

And generally u dont really need to know that much of about chem to take the lab but taking it together with gen chem helps a lot.

To answer the OP’s question: Yes, it is safe to say you will take it 2nd semester. I don’t know if it was a “science” thing, but I knew kids in my dorm who were in the engineering school and in pharmacy who took Expos Writing second semester.

I think a lot of the English expos are filled. The open sections might have conflicted with other classes you have to take, so they’ll put you in next semester.

I have the exact same schedule, I guess I’ll take expo next semester as well.
