I have said and "liked" (I was around when it was "Become a Fan") stuff on Facebook that I have come to regret, mostly about politics. In about Freshman Year I was pretty much on the hard left, and 'fanned' pages such as George Galloway's, Hugo Chavez's and Fidel Castro's. Through experience and everyday life I have moved to the center of the left, and really regret liking some of these people (I never knew Galloway supported terror organizations). I must have "fanned" like 700 pages and can't look through them all, and have made who knows how many thousands of postings. Many of them voicing opposition to Israel's blockade of Gaza etc., stuff that got Norman Finklestein in trouble with DePaul. I have also used swear words...frequently. But there is nothing about drugs or anything of that nature.

Also, my full name is Michael, and FB page is "Mike." If I change my location and take off my school, will they be able to identify my profile?

If I delete my profile, will this stuff still be around? And/or do I have to be worried at all?

go to Facebook…

That is what someone who is not your friends can see. They do not have a magic want, they do not have a special key. That is it. If they can see too much, then start setting things to “friends only” You can also go thru and delete all your silly likes. Not a bad idea, really. Change your pic to something pretty neutral.

BTW, for future classes - the best way for someone to find you on the internet is through your email address - so get a special one for college apps.

And, adcoms do often look for your net presence. Do a vanity search on your name. coupled with things like your school. Also do a search on the email address you gave the school.

It can, if you leave it out for everyone to see what you’re up to. Especially if you put up material that one may find revolting or object over it.
