<p>Can failing the NYS regents prevent you from going to college? i've failed the U.S. history regents multiple times, and i just don't seem to get the material. can this prevent me from going to college? i've been accepted to a few, but now i'm worried i won't even have the chance to go. i've also heard about the local diploma that you can get if you fail a regents or something. can anyone shed some light on this?</p>

<p>It is not a matter of failing the regents and having your admissions rescinded, it is failing the regents and not being able to graduate. Remember your admission is dependent on successfully completing high school. If you fail the regents, you will have to retake in august. In NYC, this is the last day of summer school so some students are not certified to graduate, get up dated transcripts and diplomas until we return late august (now early september). </p>
<p>You ar part of Cohort 2010. In order to graduate with a local diploma, you must past 3 regents with a score of 65 and the other 2 with a minimum of 55. </p>
<p>If you got a low pass on the US history (55-64) and you have passed all of your other regents (at least 3 with a 65), you will graduate with a local diploma.</p>
<p>Go to regentsprep.org start downloading exams each week and practice the exam. have one of your social studies teachers review the DBQ’s and theme based essays (if you can get a lock on them, you will have a good chance at passing).</p>
<p>study, study, study now. Don’t wait until the last minute.</p>

<p>Ok, if you have passed all of your other regents ( english, math, global & science) then you will get a local diploma. They can be any combination of 3 -65’s and 2- 55’s then you will graduate</p>
<p>If you are going to SUNY/CUNY it is not going to be a big deal</p>

<p>This might sound unduly cruel, but if you cannot pass a NYS Regents exam with at least a 65 you really are not ready for college. This particular Regents exam has been dumbed down so much over the past 30 years that the average middle school graduate circa 1980 would have been able to pass today’s US History exam.</p>
<p>That’s not true hudsonvalley51. Just stop. There are many people who didn’t do so well on the Regents exams end up doing fine in college. Quit generalizing.</p>
<p>A regents dipolma is no different then a regular dipolma. I have a regents diploma and all it has is a stamp saying something about regents certified. It doesn’t matter and won’t effect any schools you apply too. However, like a couple posters mentioned, you won’t be able to graduate.</p>
<p>The Regents requirement is unfair. I don’t see why you need to pass 2 social studies tests yet only 1 math test? I think that they should phase out the social studies requirements and instead require knowledge of AMC 10 type problems for Math and up to Physics for science…that would be much more fair for determining success in college.</p>

<p>I disagree with phasing out social studies requirements. You may not like them, but regardless, social studies are an important part of a high school education. A program such as the Regents should have a social studies requirement in order to be valid as a representation of success in a high school program.</p>
<p>On the other hand, it would certainly be a good idea to require proficiency in problems such as those in the first half or so of the AMC 10. The problem with that idea is that many schools and teachers do not have the ability or resources to teach at that level, especially with the terrible state our economy is in. As such, it is not practical or politically desirable to put that requirement in.</p>
<p>I’m gonna have to side with hudsonvalley on this one. Repeated failure of Regents exams shows this person is not ready for college. These tests range from passable to easy, depending on intelligence. Many questions are repeated year to year, so just doing lots of practice exams will give exposure to most of the test. Failure, especially multiple times, shows you don’t have the brains to pass, or didn’t put in the effort needed. Either one is a bad sign for college worthiness.</p>
<p>I don’t live in New York. I’m just saying that 2 social studies requirements seems a little much. Better yet, I think we should lump it all together into 1 longer exam. I don’t get why 2 social studies tests should be required while you only need 1 math one to graduate. It seems like it should be the other way around. Math is MUCH more important. And I’m saying that as someone who likes history and politics.</p>
<p>Its possible for people to have one subject that they just aren’t good at. Some people might know about a subject better than anyone else in the class and not do well in class.</p>
<p>I mean but the US History Regents… isn’t that a really easy regents? They have a really generous curve, so if you practice you should be able to get a 100 easily.</p>
<p>And I think in-state colleges like Cornell might look at your regents scores… other schools might be like wth is a regents exam. but your sats, aps, etc. take precedence over these dumb tests and it is more of a matter of not graduating. some schools don’t require you to take all the regents in NYC, but only some of them. </p>
<p>If your grades are good, and everything else is ok, then don’t worry about it.</p>
<p>first of all i don’t know how to post a new thread…second i failed the algebra 2 trig regents this june and the only time i can take it again is in january…but by then my applications will be in for college i’m going to be a senior. i never failed a regents before…i have a 90 average i took an ap course my sophomore year 2 my junior year and im taking 3 ap possibly 4 ap courses next year i’m involved in music classes, i do community service, i got an 1860 on my SAT and im planning on taking it again in october and until i failed my future wasn’t so bleak. do i have any chance of getting into suny buffalo or suny albany? before i was thinking maryland or umass of amherst but now im not so sure 
somebody please help</p>
