Can freshmen bring cars and park?

Can freshmen for this upcoming fall quarter bring cars and park?

If I don’t use my car very much at Davis, where is a good place to leave a car for 1-4 weeks?

Freshmen aren’t allowed to purchase parking permits, but if you live in Cuarto, you can park your car along Russell (right in front of the back end of the Webster and Thoreau buildings) or on Wake Forest Drive. If you park on Russell, you’d have to move your car every Thursday because that’s when they do street cleaning (my suitemate’s BF once got a ticket for not moving his car that day because he didn’t know about it).

Freshmen can also get parking permits if they have a documented reason for it (ie. need to go home on weekends to see a doctor) or if they’re living off campus. I personally wouldn’t recommend bringing a car freshman year unless you need it for some reason. You can bike/bus anywhere in Davis or even to Sac. I’m probably not bringing my car for sophomore year even, although two of my housemates will be.

I actually asked one undergrad student about this, and he told me there was somewhere he parked freshman year, and im not sure about this but he also said we could buy a permit through a upperclassmen but im not sure. But i think most likely you won’t need a permit unless u really want to have a car.

The parking permits are not tied to your car, but to the person that buys them. Yes, you would be able to ‘buy’ a permit off someone else, but if you get a ticket for not displaying your permit [it can happen even if the permit is up], they probably won’t waive it because the permit isn’t on your account.

Really though, just choose your housing wisely. If you live on campus at Segundo or Tercero you REALLY don’t need a car, what you need is a bike. Of course, if you’re going to live an hour from your parents and want to go home every weekend I can see the problem, but you could just live off campus then :)
