Hey everyone,
I have recently been offered direct admit to Kelley school of Business(Indianna University). They have a selective scholarship program which has a form that can be filled by only those who have accepted their offer of admission. The deadline to submit the form is 15 Dec but i have also appiled for ED1 to NYU. Is it possible for me to accept Kelley’s offer now and if I get into NYU, send them an email saying the same?
Thanks in advance
and are there any legal ramifications of some sort??
You need to wait for a response from NYU. You shouldn’t have applied ED if you didn’t want to go to NYU 100%
You can apply to as many schools as you’d like, but you can only apply for 1 school ED, and you must accept NYU’s offer if accepted (as long as the money is what they quoted)
You can call NYU and cancel the application if you haven’t been accepted yet
When does NYU’s answer come out? On Dec 15, before or after Dec 15?
ETA: It looks like NYU will give you an answer on Dec 15. If your are accepted, you are going to NYU. If you are deferred or rejected, you may have a few hours to submit the Kelley forms. But you need to WAIT until Dec 15.
You can’t accept to two places simultaneously. To do so would risk voiding your acceptance at both institutions.
I would read the fine print on your ED contract about whether or not you can accept to another school prior to an offer from NYU. Should you decide to accept Indiana’s offer in order to gain access to the scholarship portal and then were to obtain an acceptance at NYU, you would be obliged to withdraw your acceptance at Indiana and honor your ED contract.
the reason why i am applied for ED is because i want to go there but if i do not get admission i don’t want the opportunity to lose any scholarship that i could have gotten in kelley
but is it possible that i accept indianna for now, then inform them that i cannot come if i get into nyu
Why don’t you call Indiana and ask them?
Indiana offers the scholarship to student who have accepted to persuade you to accept their offer over another school’s.
Why would Indiana allow you to apply for the scholarship just for you not to go if you get into NYU…
NYU is horrendously expensive. Should you be accepted ED, you won’t get a penny in merit, that’s certain. The program you have been accepted to is prestigious. It’s ranked number 1 of all public unis and fourth overall. Do you realize how lucky you are? I actually think you would be doing yourself and your family a diservice not to accept the offer.
Did your family put your income and asset information into the NYU net price calculator? They are not known for generous aid. If it doesn’t look affordable to your parents then you could call them and change ED to RD.
Kelley sounds like a great opportunity. If you are worried about a scholarship there, then NYU might not be a good choice.
You don’t want to not get into NYU or get in and it be too expensive, and then it be too late for the IU scholarship as well.
Even without the scholarship IU out of state will still be much less costly than NYU for both tuition and cost of living. Bloomington is not Manhattan but it is one of the best college towns anywhere. If you have second thoughts about NYU, you could call them to withdraw your ED app and still apply RD while pursuing the scholarship at IU.
You can do it, but you likely will lose your admissions deposit that I assume you would’ve making to Kelley, and you have to withdraw if you get into NYU. Honestly – I’d call NYU and change to RD. See what choices you have in the end, especially if finances are important to you.
I agree with @intparent. Call NYU and change to RD and apply to Kelley. It will open up more options for you in the long run and potentially save a lot of tuition money for your family. Both IU and NYU are great schools!
