Can I advance to the top 5 in my class?

I am ranked 244/588 GPA unweighted (3.54) and 193/588 GPA weighted (3.85). I'm not doing that bad in freshman year but by the time I graduate will I be in the top 5 if I do well from now on to the end of high school while taking as many ap/honor classes? I'm asking this because I feel that my rank is really low and I'll do anything to improve it.

Just try your best to bring up your grades. It does not matter if you ended up #5 or not. For most top schools, you do want to be at least among the top 10% in the class though.

top 5 not a chance. top 5% not really. you’d have to be top 30 and tbh that isnt gonna happen if you have to beat out another 160 people

@Rurouni‌ so it’s basically impossible?

basically i mean; there are 190 people ahead of you that are just as determined to make that percentile. not to mention the people who are behind you who are trying to overtake you; to put it simply ya i dont see it happening IMO

you should still try as hard as possible to break 10% which is possible but still slim

It’s definitely possible. I had a class of 850. One of my friends was ranked 363 freshman year. Junior year is about to end for me and him, and he’s now ranked 39. Probably 25 after this semester (4.67 GPA because of straight A’s in 4 AP classes out of 6 classes total).

You’re going to need straight A’s and extremely rigorous courses.

If you do not try, it is definitely not possible. If you’ve tried your best, everything is possible.
