Lets see here I want to go to either UCSD, UCI, or UCSB from a CC. By the time I transfer (Fall 10) i will have completed all my prereqs and IGETC.. however my GPA currently is at a 3.04. I fear that I wont get into any of those engineering programs if my gpa remains the same but i know they have a higher acceptance rate for math and other physical sci majors. Can i or should i apply as a math major or something then change it when i get there? is that even possible? any reply would be appreciated. thank you guys.

you really need to get boost that gpa up

if they wouldn’t let you in as a transfer applicant for engineering, they won’t let you in as a major change.
different schools have different restrictions, you might be setting yourself for dissapointment if you transfer in realizing you can’t switch majors. you’re better off applying to cal states for engineering if you really really want engineering. engineering is one of those majors that you’ll receive a more practical education at the cal state level and some employers seek that more than what the uc’s have to offer. check out cal poly pomona or san luis obispo

side-note: San Luis Obispo is ultra competitive. Consider CSULB instead.

you know you can do TAG for UCSB and UCI engineering right?

yes i do… currently set up with both of them but my gpa for my prereq’s is a 2.8 and igetc courses 3.5. I have like 5 more prereq’s to do but i can def maintain a 3.0 in those classes… and thank you guys for the replies so far.
