I was reading some threads about people planning to apply to both MIT (NREA) and Princeton (SCEA) during the early admission period. Based on Princeton’s guidelines, you cannot apply early to any other private institution (public is fine though).
So that wouldn’t be allowed, right? Not trying to nitpitck on other people, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on something.
Thanks for the clarification!
No, you can’t apply to MIT as well as an SCEA.
You are correct, but it is pretty clear from numerous posts every year that plenty of students are doing it anyway. Unfortunately, it seems to be an honor system.
You think Princeton doesn’t talk to MIT?
Stanford and Columbia shared an anecdote a couple of years ago in a presentation where someone asked a question like this. They both admitted and booted the candidate.
I don’t believe for a minute it is an honor system. They all look at each others’ admitted lists early and most of the time talk to the school and their regional counter parts about the gems they admitted from their region.
Basically, anyone breaking a school’s EA/ED rules takes a very large gamble. If a student is found to have broken the rules, they will likely be rejected (or have their admission overturned) from the school, and many other schools will blacklist them as well. Top colleges DO talk to each other and share data. IMO, just don’t take the risk. It’s not worth it.
Thanks for the clarification everyone! I was not interested in breaking any rules, just wanted to make sure that I fully understood them.
