I really want to go to Columbia for civil engineering, but I haven't taken SAT II's required and don't think the Dec. scores will do. Can I apply undecided, and then once I've taken the tests, switch my major to civil engineering?

in order to do civil, you must apply to the end school, you can apply undecided here, but you must fulfill the SATII requisites for fu, i think that's mathIIc and a science? - really not sure.

No, because you have to be in SEAS to be a civil engineer. It sounds like you want to do CC ED and then switch over once your SAT IIs come in, which I'm pretty sure you can't do.

Yeah, it is math and a science. Sucks for me, because I didn't take the SATII's yet, but hopefully I can go standby for Novemeber, which I assume adcoms will accept(Nov. Scores) if I give them a note that I will have taken the SATII's in November. It's really been a financial issue. I'm low income and had to personally save to take the tests, and for some reason CollegeBoard never accepted my fee waiver request, and they simply won't do it even if I call. I addressed this to Columbia's ad department, but they won't budge. I'm in a tight squeeze. If I can't take the Nov. SATII's, am I totally boned? Is there any way I can apply ED without these SATII's? I am taking AP Calc and AP Physics ANYWAY D**N IT!!!!WHAT MORE DO THEY WAAAAAANT?!?!?!?!......(regains composure)

No, seriously. Can anyone help me out?

Unfortunately, you were unable to take the SAT II's in order for Columbia to give your ED application proper consideration. It is unreasonable for them to make an exception for you when there are others who would also like to receive special consideration. Spare yourself the frustration and apply RD.

Good luck!

i hate to admit it, but if the columbia ad com won't budge, then they're trying to maintain some level of strict objectivity (which can have it's disadvantages), but try them again, call a different number or at a different time of day and hopefully talk to someone else, and explain your situation to them, it might work. I think they still won't budge because they have no way to verify whether your situation is genuine. and they get applicants from across the socio-economic spectrum who get their scores in on time. RD isn't a bad alternative.
