Can I apply for financial aid even if I answered no on Common App

I answered “no” to the question “Do you intend to pursue need based financial aid” on common app and submitted my apps, but then my dad lost his job, so is there a way I can appeal it? Please answer if you have any info, I’m desperate.

Call your colleges and ask them to change it. They should be helpful if you’re nice and explain the situation thoroughly, but do it ASAP.

There is no need to appeal. The answer to the question describes your intent at the time you submitted the common app, it is not a binding commitment not to apply for fin aid.

That being said, schools have varying fin aid application deadlines, and some schools are need aware in admissions.

So, contact the school(s) ASAP!

Yes. Do it. And then you might also review the ‘change of circumstances’ form because the income on the FA applications is 2018 and your position has changed.

The college application has nothing to do with FAFSA and financial aid. That process is completely separate. Just fill out the financial aid application, and you should be fine.
