I'm planning on applying to business as an internal transfer, but if I don't get in, I want to do corporate communications. I want to know if its possible for me to switch my major to communications and then apply to business and transfer over to business from communications if I get accepted to McCombs.

I'm assuming the answer is yes its ok, but I just want to make sure there are no rules against this. Also what is the minimum (and average) GPA for communications?

Well, as the communications school is a restricted school, you would also need to apply to the communications school if you aren’t already in it.

If you are already in the communications school, you can easily switch your major to communications.

I’m not an incoming freshman, i’m already a UT sophomore. Also do you know if there are any pre-req classes to transferring into the school of communications?

Oh sorry! Well McCombs is competitive no matter if you are an incoming freshman or a current UT student, but its about .2-.3 gpa points easier to get as a current student than as an external transfer - and its even more hard to get in as an incoming freshman

You should apply to both McCombs and the College of Communications. You need to do some research and find out what the pre-reqs are. You could be accepted at both, one, or neither.

Generally, internal transfer to McCombs requires a 3.7+ UT GPA. Comm is a bit easier to transfer into.

3.4 should be OK. It is a little on the low side, but do get your application together ASAP. The comm website is down right now. Odd. Otherwise, I’d try to link you to the information that you need.

The website is back up and it says you need a minimum 2.0 Communications gpa to apply also, but I haven’t take a CMS class yet. So does this mean I can’t apply?

Call them, or visit the CMS advising office, and ask. CC is not the place to have these questions answered. Most CMS classes are upper-division anyways, so it shouldn’t be a big deal.

Oh awesome, well I anticipate a 3.8+ gpa this semester, so that would give me a cumulative gpa of 3.6-3.7. I believe the website also says they look at transfer coursework, and since I attended a different university my first year I think they will be looking at those grades too.

navyarf, lol trust me I know CC isn’t THE place to get advice so I already emailed the internal transfer advisor and he has emailed me back. Apparently I can still apply even though I haven’t taken a CMS class yet.
